WHAT TO CONSIDER WHEN BUILDING A CUSTOM GARAGE

If you're thinking about building a new garage, you want to customize to suit your tastes. We compiled some of the more essential details to consider before getting started on building a custom garage:

Local Zoning Laws

Before choosing garage plans and materials, you'll want to check with local zoning laws to make sure you're building a garage that meets that criteria. When faced with a newly built garage that doesn't meet zoning requirements, you may have to tear down or redo part of your project. Zoning laws are most helpful in telling homeowners where their new a garage can go and the size limitations.

Garages also need roofing and drainage to stay up to code. Zoning laws will also help you know what type of roof and drain systems it will need.

Garage Purpose

Once you know zoning information, you can start thinking more about your reasons behind a new garage construction. Not all garages are the same and not all are used for overnight car storage. Many garages are used as an office, workshop, storage, and even workout rooms. For you to decide the best design for you and your home, you want to explore your needs and purpose for how you'd like to use the space best.

Vehicle Size

You might have seen a friend or family member with a tennis ball attached to a string or a tire against the garage wall as a guide to parking the car. If you don't pull right up to that point, the garage might not be able to close!

It is not a funny thing to realize your car won't fit after building a new garage. So, you will want to consider the size of your vehicles how much space you and passengers will need to enter and exit each car.

Proper Ventilation

Airflow and proper ventilation are essential steps in the planning process for a new garage. Cars release harmful toxins like carbon monoxide. If your garage is not properly ventilated, you may be trapping these harmful toxins in the garage or even allowing them to backdraft into the house and potentially harm inhabitants. Also, summer months can be brutal in Arizona; having a well-ventilated garage will also help keep the rest of your home and your vehicles cool.

Attached or Detached Garage

Most homes have an attached garage, meaning you can directly access the garage from a door in your home without having to go outside first. There are tons of benefits to an attached garage. From the ease of access, keeping your car warmer, and keeping you and your family dry when it rains outside. Detached garages have more design options and customizations, making a detached garage a great choice, if you have the space required.

Garage planning can be pretty seamless once you consider the details like purpose and some of the technical aspects like zoning, sizing, and proper ventilation. In a short time, you can have the custom garage of your dreams!
